About SA Powerball
Powerball is South Africa’s biggest-jackpot game, part of the National Lottery run by Sizekhaya since 1 June 2026. It is a different game from the American Powerball. Draws are held every Tuesday and Friday evening.
How to play SA Powerball
Pick five numbers from 1 to 50 and one Powerball from 1 to 16 (it was 1 to 20 until June 2026). Match all five and the Powerball to win the jackpot, which rolls over when nobody wins it. You win a prize from matching the Powerball alone.
Powerball XTRA
Powerball XTRA (called Powerball Plus until June 2026) is an optional add-on with its own draw and jackpot. It has a “Jackpot Cascade”: if nobody wins the XTRA jackpot in the last draw of the month, it goes to the next prize division.
SA Powerball odds
The odds of the jackpot are 1 in 33,900,160. Matching five numbers without the Powerball is 1 in 2,260,011, and the Powerball on its own is 1 in 28.
