Why Bet on El Gordo?
Spain’s annual Christmas raffle El Gordo is the biggest lottery event of the holiday season. With an extraordinary prize pool of over €2 billion, you’ll be happy to learn that the overall odds are just as amazing at 1 in 6.5. Bet on the world’s richest lottery this holiday season for a chance to take home one of 17 lucrative prize categories!
How Does Online Lottery Betting Work?
Instead of entering the official El Gordo draw, you will bet on a random El Gordo raffle ticket. This means that instead of buying an actual ticket, you'll receive a set of El Gordo draw numbers with your wager.
By gambling on sets of numbers in this way, you will be eligible to win the equivalent prize money for each tier – including the El Gordo First Prize – as if you had bought the ticket!
What is a Decima?
Because the cost of a full El Gordo ticket is quite high, each ticket is divided into ten parts, or decimas.
You can bet on a decima or one-tenth of a ticket for a share of that prize tier. For instance, if your numbers come up, and you have purchased a 1/10th share, you will win 1/10th of the prize for that tier.
How Do I Win El Gordo?
The total number of series and tickets represent the grand total of shares at stake. On the day of the draw, each 5-digit number and prize values are printed on separate balls, placed in 2 drums, and drawn to match a number with a prize.
There are 17 incredible prize categories and thousands of winning combinations. The amount you can win depends on what share of the ticket you bet on. It also depends on which prize tier your number was drawn from. For instance, the top prize tier has an approximate payout of €4 million!
Tell me About El Gordo History & Good Causes
El Gordo can be traced all the way back to 1812 and gets it nickname (“the fat one”) as a reference to the huge amount of prize money distributed each year. Fun fact: the winning numbers are usually sung aloud by a chorus of school children from the Colegio de Educación Infantil y Primaria San Ildefonso as a long-standing tradition!
